A Legacy Built on Community

Where the Story Began

Sunshine Media began with a simple vision: to bring the South Asian community together through meaningful communication.

Our founder, Matanat Khan, a medical professional by background, was known for his natural ability to connect with people. Alongside his wife Shaheen Khan, their home was often filled with gatherings that brought friends, families, and community members together.

From these moments of connection came an idea a radio program that would inform, entertain, and unite the community.

The Voice of a Community

The Rise of Sunshine Radio

With the support of the entire family, Sunshine Radio was launched. What began as a weekend radio show quickly captured the hearts of listeners across the GTA.

The program soon expanded to five days a week, each day offering a unique experience from musical storytelling and artist biographies to interactive talk shows and audience games.

In a historic moment, Sunshine Radio became the first station in Canada to broadcast the Friday Azaan live on radio, touching thousands of listeners across the community.

For many, Sunshine Radio became more than a show it became a voice of connection and belonging.

Growing the Platform

As the community continued to grow, so did Sunshine Media.

Urdu TV was launched to expand the platform beyond radio, allowing audiences to experience interviews, cultural programming, and community stories visually.

Through television and radio, Sunshine Media continued strengthening connections across the South Asian diaspora.

Gathering the Community

Grand Eid Bazaars & Business Expos

More than two decades ago, Sunshine Media hosted its first Grand Eid Bazaar.
What began as a single event quickly became one of the community’s most anticipated gatherings, welcoming thousands of visitors each year.

With stage performances, family entertainment, children’s activities, competitions, and major giveaways, the events became celebrations of culture and connection.

Alongside these gatherings, Business Expos were introduced to support entrepreneurs and businesses within the community.

A Legacy That Continues

Today, Sunshine Media continues to serve the community through radio, television, cultural events, and business platforms.

Built on trust, authenticity, and a deep commitment to community service, the platform remains dedicated to bringing people together.

More than 25 years later, the mission remains the same – strengthening community, celebrating culture, and connecting generations.
